A new toy
After years without one, I bought a camera.
I’ve had my eye on the Lumix DMC-TZ1 ever since I read Kevin Kelly’s recommendation on Cool Tools. While I researched reasons not to buy it, one of the reasons I settled on it was the 10x optical zoom—the last camera in the family had a puny 3x zoom, and I knew I wanted more in the next camera.
This one is also small enough to fit into my purse, but heavy enough to warrant removing some of the items I typically carry. There aren’t many to start with, so wielding the axe will be a painful process.

I just got that same exact camera for Christmas for the same exact reason, the 10x zoom and it fits in my purse. I love the thing.
Cool, isn’t it? Glad I read the recommendation, or I would have spent months obsessing about it.
I am still trying to get a minute of free time to read the manual, but my birthday came and my husband got me another camera, a digital SLR. It’s a little overwhelming, these new toys, but I won’t touch the SLR until I have the Lumix mastered. Surely that is the one that will get used most because I can carry it in my purse or pocket.
I have a digital SLR on my wish list, but I have more to learn than just how this camera works. I’d like to have more experience taking pictures first.
I told my husband to wait, that I’d take a raincheck on my birthday present, but I think he wanted to get the SLR so HE could use it. LOL.
So far, the Panasonic works better than the SLR in the fully auto mode.
